Second National Banking Discourse 2024, successfully completed


Kathmandu – The second National Banking Discourse 2024 has been successfully completed. Experts from the respective fields participated in the discourse, which was divided into four sessions.

In the discourse, the expectation of the upcoming monetary policy in the banking sector, investment in financial literacy and its social impact and current status, the current scenario of the digital ecosystem in Nepal and the challenges of cross-border digital payments, the sustainable use of remittances for socio-economic development and future guidelines have been discussed. Former Finance Minister Surendra Pandey, Executive Director of Bank Supervision Department of Rashtra Bank Ramu Poudel, Economist Surya Bahadur Thapa participated in the first session of the discourse. Senior journalist Dil Bhushan Pathak was the facilitator of this session.

Bhuvan Dahal, Chairman of Financial Literacy Nepal, Santosh Koirala, Chief Executive Officer of Machhapuchhre Bank, Manoj Kumar Gyawali, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Nabil Bank, Pawan Regmi, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of National Commercial Bank participated in the second session on ‘Social Impact and Current Status of Financial Literacy in Nepal’. Journalist Mr. Pandey was the facilitator of this session.

In the third session of the discourse, ‘Sustainable Use of Remittances for Socio-Economic Development and Future Guidelines’, Executive Director of Bank and Financial Institutions Regulation Department of Nepal Rastra Bank Guru Prasad Paudel, Demographic Statistics Expert Chetan Adhikari, Executive Director of Foreign Employment Board Dwarika Upreti, Deputy Executive Officer of Global IME Bank Suman Pokharel participated. Senior journalist Tikaram Yatri was the facilitator of this session.

In the fourth session of the discourse, ‘Digital Ecosystem and Challenges of Cross Border Payments in Nepal’, Krishnaram Dhunju, Director of Payment System Department of Nepal Rastra Bank, Sanjeev Subba of Fintech Alliance, Nileshman Singh Pradhan, Chief Executive Officer of NCHL, and Diwas Kumar Sapkota, Chief Executive Officer of PhonePe participated. The session was moderated by Michael Siddhi, Head of SBI Banking Operations. The discourse was attended by representatives of banks and financial sector. It is believed that this discourse will play an effective role at the level of policy making. Experts from Dubai were also present at the course.

The representatives of the bank and financial sector participating in the discourse also put their questions to the experts participating in the session. As a result, the discourse became more interactive.
