In the fiscal year 2079.80, Nepal saw a notable influx of foreign direct investment (FDI), with India emerging as the largest investor. According to a survey report published by Nepal Rastra Bank:
- India led the investment charts with a total of NPR 1 trillion 3.45 billion, making up 35% of the total foreign investment in Nepal.
- China followed as the second-largest investor with NPR 35.46 billion, accounting for 12% of the total foreign investment.
- Ireland contributed NPR 22.62 billion, Australia invested NPR 19.6 billion, and Singapore provided NPR 18.81 billion.
- South Korea also made a significant contribution with NPR 13.87 billion, representing 4.7% of the total foreign investment.
The majority of foreign investments were directed towards the industrial sector, which received 59.7% of the total investments. Within the industrial sector, 30% was invested in hydropower projects and 29.4% in production. Additionally, 26% of the investments were allocated to the economic and financial sector, and 6.7% went into the information and technology sector.
