Kathmandu – Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari has directed banks to increase their investment in ‘Green Finance’ and ‘Climate Financing.’ Speaking at an event today, Governor Adhikari stated that Nepal Rastra Bank has developed guidelines on climate change in line with global market trends.
Governor Adhikari emphasized, “We cannot take climate and social issues lightly. If we do, even banks could face consequences. Therefore, we must understand the risks early and find ways to mitigate them.” He instructed banks to stop making excuses and invest in climate and green financing.
Highlighting that the central bank has been encouraging investment in agriculture and hydropower sectors, Governor Adhikari mentioned that increased investments in hydropower have led to a rise in the use of electric vehicles in Nepal.
He added, “All investors should invest in green finance. Nepal Rastra Bank has been moving forward with a clear vision for sustainable finance.” He also noted that sustainable finance can be promoted through collaboration between the private and banking sectors.
