KATHMANDU, Nov 5: Two Nepali nationals, who had been on the run after an INTERPOL red corner notice was issued against them for defrauding multiple individuals, have been apprehended in Cambodia and returned to Nepal for legal proceedings.

Binu Shakya, a resident of Mankha in Sindhupalchowk district, was arrested through cooperation with INTERPOL’s Cambodia bureau and has now been handed over to Nepal Police for further action, confirmed Deputy Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki, spokesperson for Nepal Police.

Shakya had been absconding after allegedly defrauding over 40 people of Rs 52 million by falsely promising employment opportunities in Singapore.

INTERPOL issued a red corner notice on February 2, 2024, at the request of Nepal Police’s Crime Investigation Department Interpol Branch, targeting both Binu Shakya and Sujan Acharya of Triyuga Municipality-10 in Udayapur district. Following this notice, the two were detained in Cambodia on September 17, 2024.

While Sujan Acharya was returned to Nepal on October 25, Binu Shakya has now been transferred to the Police Circle in Kalimati for further investigation and prosecution.
