KATHMANDU, Nov 6: Republican nominee and former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential race following Fox News’ projection of his win over Democrat Kamala Harris. Speaking to a cheering crowd at the Palm Beach County Convention Center early Wednesday, Trump declared, “America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate.”

While other media outlets had yet to officially call the race, Trump was on the verge of securing the presidency after winning key battleground states including Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia. He also led in several other crucial states, according to Edison Research.

Trump’s remarkable political comeback has captured national attention, given that just four years ago, many believed his career had ended after the January 6 Capitol insurrection. This victory would mark the first non-consecutive presidential term in over a century. Meanwhile, Harris’ campaign had yet to concede, with her co-chair stating that they were still awaiting votes to be counted.

Trump’s increased support from Hispanic voters, historically a Democratic-leaning demographic, and his strong performance among lower-income households highlighted his widespread appeal across diverse American communities. His focus on economic issues resonated with voters who felt the sting of inflation, with Trump winning 79% of voters who considered the economy their top priority.

As the race continues, both parties are grappling for control of the House of Representatives, with Republicans securing a U.S. Senate majority. The outcome of this intense, polarizing election will have significant implications for American democracy and the future political landscape.
