KATHMANDU- Two police officers, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), were arrested on Wednesday from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office (KVCIO) following accusations of their involvement in a robbery involving old leather currency in the Kalanki area.

The suspects, ASI Ana Bahadur Pun and Constable Dhir Budha, were apprehended by a team from the KVCIO. They are accused of collaborating with a middleman to rob an individual of the leather currency at a restaurant in Kalanki. After their arrest, they were handed over to the District Police Range (DPR) in Kathmandu for further investigation.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Dinesh Raj Mainali, who confirmed the incident, the officers from KVCIO’s Kirtipur branch allegedly worked with the middleman, who used police-issued handcuffs to restrain the victim. The officers acted as lookouts while the middleman robbed the individual. The police officers, dressed in plain clothes, were later identified by the victim as policemen.

Sources report that the officers had promised to pay the middleman Rs 2.5 million for his part in the crime but ultimately left with the stolen currency without paying him. The DPR is currently searching for the middleman and the victim, who remain at large. SP Mainali stated that the details have been forwarded to the Kathmandu Valley Police Office to intensify the search.
