Nepalese spend nearly NPR 56 Billion on foreign travel in three months

Kathmandu: Nepalese spending on foreign travel has seen a significant increase in recent months, according to data published by the Nepal Rastra Bank. Statistics from the first quarter of the current fiscal year, up to mid-October, reveal that Nepalese expenditure abroad surpassed the amount foreign tourists spent in Nepal.

During this period, Nepalese spent NPR 55.78 billion on foreign travel, marking a 7.7% increase compared to the same period last year. Of this total, NPR 23.65 billion was spent on leisure travel, while NPR 32.13 billion was used for studying abroad.

In comparison, during the same period last year, the expenditure on foreign travel was NPR 51.80 billion, with NPR 18.88 billion spent on leisure and NPR 32.92 billion on education.

Meanwhile, Nepal’s income from inbound tourism reached NPR 17.72 billion during the same period, a modest 3.5% increase from NPR 17.13 billion in the corresponding period last year.

The data underscores a growing trend of Nepalese opting for foreign destinations and higher expenditures compared to the revenue generated from international tourists visiting Nepal.
