Government Calls for Renewed Talks on Pathibhara Cable Car Project Amid Ongoing Protests

Banking News – The government has urged a return to negotiations with protesters opposing the construction of the Pathibhara cable car.

On Friday, Prem Prasad Bhattarai, coordinator of the government’s negotiation team, sent a formal invitation to the Mukkumlung Tangse: Chumbho and Mukkumlung Inter-party Struggle Committee in Taplejung, requesting them to resume dialogue.

The letter referenced discussions that began on January 4, emphasizing the need for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing dispute. “I invite local representatives from Taplejung to participate in talks to address the protesters’ concerns regarding social, religious, cultural, and local community issues through peaceful dialogue,” Bhattarai stated.

Despite the government’s call for negotiations, protesters remain firm in their demands. They continue to insist on the formation of a ministerial-level dialogue committee, the release of detained individuals, an immediate halt to construction, and the withdrawal of security forces from the area.

Meanwhile, authorities have filed charges against 18 individuals in Taplejung in connection with the protests.
