Kathmandu – Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari has urged the public to conduct financial transactions exclusively through banks and financial institutions regulated by NRB.
Speaking at the Global Money Week event in Kathmandu on Monday, Governor Adhikari emphasized the importance of developing a habit of saving through NRB-authorized banks and financial institutions.
He highlighted that, beyond its core mandate, NRB considers financial inclusion a key priority. “The central bank aims for every citizen to have a bank account and actively use it,” he stated.
Governor Adhikari also noted that financial awareness leads to behavioral changes, particularly among students. “Being financially aware brings positive changes in conduct. In the future, it will ensure individual financial security and contribute to building a transparent society,” he said. He added that students play a vital role in shaping an ethical financial environment, reinforcing the need for financial education from an early age.
“We are working to incorporate financial literacy and inclusion into the school curriculum,” he revealed.
Additionally, he stressed the importance of mindful spending. “Just as one should eat according to their capacity, financial management should be based on one’s means,” he remarked. He also reiterated NRB’s commitment to promoting financial literacy across the country through awareness campaigns, which will be further expanded in the coming days.
