Banking News – Chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority, Sharad Ojha, has received the report of the second edition of the ‘National Insurance Discourse 2025.’ The newly appointed chairman received the report from Raju Dhungel, Managing Director of Banking News, which co-organized the event along with the Nepal Insurance Authority.
The discourse was held on January 9, 2025 (Poush 25, 2081) at Marriott Kathmandu. The event focused on the current state of the insurance sector, its challenges, and future directions, featuring in-depth discussions across four sessions.
Key Highlights of the Event
The discourse was inaugurated by Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, with notable attendees including the former chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority, Surya Prasad Silwal, the president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), and the president of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI).
The sessions covered various critical topics such as:
- Strategies and prospects for the development of the life insurance sector
- Market dynamics and obstacles in non-life insurance
- The emergence of technology in insurance: Challenges and opportunities
- Expansion of Nepal’s reinsurance market and business growth

While receiving the report, Chairman Ojha emphasized the importance of such national-level discussions in expanding insurance access, identifying challenges, and shaping the development of the insurance sector. He reiterated that the Nepal Insurance Authority has been co-organizing such discussions due to their significance.
Similarly, Managing Director Dhungel highlighted the goal of ensuring the sustainable development, stability, and promotion of the insurance sector, with a focus on expanding access to rural areas.
With this vision, Banking News has been organizing National Insurance Discourses since 2024, and plans to continue hosting similar high-level discussions in the future. The first edition of the ‘National Insurance Discourse 2024’ was successfully held on September 4, 2023 (Bhadra 18, 2080), with its report submitted to the Nepal Insurance Authority, the Ministry of Finance, and other relevant stakeholders.
