Kathmandu – Police have arrested 28 individuals for operating an illegal online betting ring under the guise of a call center. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) apprehended the suspects from the residence of Nimita Rajeshwari Shah, located in Baluwatar, Kathmandu.
According to the CIB, the call center was set up by Sushant Rai, Regmi, and Baburam Chapagain, who lured the public with promises of high returns and encouraged participation in online betting and casino platforms through various betting apps.
Spokesperson Yuvraj Khadka informed that cases have already been filed against key suspects Sushant Rai and Sajak Bahadur Adhikari, while investigations are ongoing against the remaining 26 individuals.
During the raid, authorities seized a total of 148 electronic devices, including 6 laptops, 25 CPUs, 2 mobile phones, 26 monitors, 15 chargers, 1 DVR, 1 television, 25 keyboards, 25 mice, 20 headphones, and 2 routers.
Further investigation revealed that the employees at the so-called call center were actively encouraging clients to engage in online gambling and betting. Two of the arrested individuals had also been conducting training sessions lasting 3 to 7 days over the past few months, Khadka added.
