Bhola Bikram Thapa Appointed as New Dean of HCC-Nepal as Former Dean Completes Tenure

Kathmandu – The one-year tenure of the Dean of the Honorary Consular Corps–Nepal (HCC-N) concluded yesterday, marking the successful handover of leadership to Bhola Bikram Thapa, the Honorary Consul of Bulgaria to Nepal. The outgoing Dean extended his best wishes to Mr. Thapa for a successful term, assuring him of continued support and cooperation in the days ahead.

In a statement marking the end of his tenure, the outgoing Dean reflected on the evolving role of honorary consuls in the global landscape, emphasizing the growing importance of economic diplomacy as a vital pillar of national prosperity. “In today’s changing world, economic diplomacy has become the backbone of a nation’s development,” he said.

He highlighted the significant contributions made by honorary consuls in attracting foreign investment, promoting trade and tourism, and strengthening international relations. “We are not just ceremonial representatives; we are committed, capable, and active partners in the nation’s economic diplomacy,” he added.

The former Dean also stressed that if the government were to assign honorary consuls proper roles and responsibilities, Nepal could mobilize a large, skilled, and effective international network to serve national interests—without adding financial burden to the state.

Expressing heartfelt gratitude, he thanked the Government of Nepal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the diplomatic community, fellow honorary consuls, stakeholders, and well-wishers for their unwavering support, goodwill, and collaboration during his term.
