Engineering Rendezvous 2025 Set to Address Emerging Risks in Malaysia’s Infrastructure and Energy Sector

The Asian Institute of Insurance (AII) is set to host the inaugural Engineering Rendezvous 2025, a high-level forum aimed at tackling the growing complexities of engineering risk management and insurance in Malaysia and across the ASEAN region.

Scheduled to take place at Level 2, AICB Building, Kuala Lumpur, this one-day event will bring together a wide array of professionals from the insurance, engineering, and risk management sectors. The forum will delve into challenges facing underwriting in fields such as data centre construction, green energy, commercial development, and infrastructure projects.

With the theme “Are We Prepared?”, the event intends to strengthen the capabilities of underwriters, brokers, reinsurers, claims professionals, and loss adjusters by providing them with technical insights, case studies, and current industry developments.

Highlights of the Programme

The event will be helmed by Ir. Pooba Mahalingam, a seasoned risk consultant and engineer, who will also serve as the Program Director. The day will begin with an opening speech by Mr. Paul Low, CEO of AII, followed by a keynote address from Ir. Sharifah Azlina Raja Kamal, CEO of HSS Engineering, on navigating Malaysia’s construction industry.

Throughout the day, attendees will hear from prominent speakers including:

  • Adi Salleh (Samsung Reinsurance) on risk assessment in power vs. renewable energy.
  • Toby Nabarro (Fenchurch Law) on engineering claims during defect rectification periods.
  • Eric Teh (HDI Global SE) on insuring solar, hydro, and BESS projects.
  • Saiful Sanusi (Swiss Re) on underwriting insights for data centres.
  • John Yep (Allianz Malaysia) on risks in hydrogen project construction.

A panel discussion in the afternoon will focus on underwriting challenges in emerging technology projects. Panelists include key figures from PIAM, Antah Insurance Brokers, Labuan Re, and Archipelago Insurance Limited.

Networking & Industry Collaboration

The event will also feature multiple networking sessions, including an exclusive evening at the Royal Lake Club, hosted by HDI Global SE. This will provide a valuable opportunity for participants to build professional relationships and exchange best practices.

Driving Change Through Education

Engineering Rendezvous 2025 also qualifies under Malaysia’s HRD Corp Claimable Courses, enabling companies to leverage training grants and tax benefits. With topics covering real-world claims, complex project underwriting, and new-age technologies, the event aims to elevate professional competencies and stimulate thought leadership in the engineering insurance sector.
