Banking News – The number of individuals blacklisted for failing to repay bank loans and interest has surged significantly, according to the Credit Information Bureau (CIB). In the last fiscal year 2081/82 alone, a total of 18,801 individuals were blacklisted after defaulting on loan repayments.
This marks an increase of 1,200 cases compared to the previous year. Two years ago, in fiscal year 2079/80, the number stood at 34,000, while in 2078/79 it was 15,995—showing a sharp rise of nearly 6,000 from the prior year.
Furthermore, the Bureau reported that in fiscal year 2081/82, an additional 53,571 individuals were added to the blacklist, primarily due to bounced checks and failure to regularize bank loans. With this, the total number of blacklisted individuals has reached nearly 130,000.
In comparison, the number of people blacklisted in fiscal year 2080/81 was 52,303, indicating a continuing upward trend in loan defaults and credit risk across Nepal’s banking sector.
