KATHMANDU – Kathmandu District Administration Office (KDAO) has issued a curfew around Baneswor area where thousands of youngsters have gathered protesting against rampant corruption and social media ban.
This comes shortly after hundreds of youths, including members of Gen Z, staged a protest near the federal parliament in Baneshwor on Sunday, defying barricades and briefly breaking into the parliament compound.
KDAO in a public notice said the curfew is imposed around one kilometer of the federal parliament building.
The demonstration, fueled by anger over the government’s social media ban and widespread corruption, drew participants from diverse backgrounds some still in school uniforms with bags slung over their shoulders.
Police initially allowed the crowd to gather near the western gate but tensions escalated when protesters dismantled barricades and forced the gates open. A section of the demonstrators managed to enter the restricted premises.
