Banking news – GovPay, Sri Lanka’s online payment platform powered by LankaPay, has reached a major milestone by enabling 100 government organizations to accept digital payments four months ahead of its initial year-end target.
Launched in February 2025 by President of Sri Lanka in partnership with the Ministry of Digital Economy and the Information Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), GovPay was introduced with just 16 departments onboard. The platform allows citizens to pay for government services through internet banking, mobile banking, and third-party fintech applications.
The initiative has already facilitated more than LKR 95 million in government revenue collection. Among its most notable achievements is the integration of police traffic spot fine payments, marking a breakthrough in convenience and efficiency for both citizens and authorities.
The accelerated progress was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Harsha Purasinghe, the GovPay team at ICTA, and LankaPay. Officials said the achievement demonstrates Sri Lanka’s commitment to expanding digital public infrastructure and promoting a cashless economy.
“With this commitment and effort, the possibilities are limitless,” the team noted, highlighting GovPay’s potential to further revolutionize public service payments in the country.
