Kathmandu – Newly appointed Inspector General of Nepal Police (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki has announced a new facility to provide “Emergency Concessional Short-Term Loans” to police personnel. The decision was made during a meeting of the Nepal Police Headquarters Policy Formulation Committee held on Thursday, his first major decision after assuming office.

According to the decision, police personnel ranging from office assistants to senior sub-inspectors—along with their dependent family members—will be eligible to receive up to Rs 200,000 in emergency loans. The loan aims to support immediate needs arising from emergencies related to health, education, and household issues, among others.

The loan will be provided under an installment-based scheme, to be repaid within one year at an interest rate of 5 percent.

To facilitate the program, the Nepal Police Welfare Fund will allocate up to Rs 10 crore for the current fiscal year 2082/83. The loan distribution will be carried out through the Welfare Directorate of Nepal Police Headquarters, which will prepare and implement the necessary guidelines.
