Kathmandu – Vivek Dhakal has been arrested for allegedly demanding NPR 3 million while threatening to shut down The British College. Dhakal, aged 28, a permanent resident of Ward No. 4, Chaurideurali Rural Municipality, Kavrepalanchok District, and currently residing in Jorpati, reportedly demanded NPR 3 million from the college management and threatened to close the college if the amount was not paid.

Dhakal is accused of bargaining for money while threatening to use political and administrative influence to shut down the college. He has been arrested under Section 253 of the National Criminal Code, 2074, relating to the offence of extortion.
According to the allegations, on Poush 16 and 17, 2082, Dhakal met the college’s management at a hotel in Naxal, where he created an atmosphere of fear, intimidation, and pressure, warning of serious consequences if the demanded amount was not paid. Dhakal is also accused of spreading content on social media and limited online news portals that negatively affected the college’s reputation, credibility, and public image.
Furthermore, on Poush 8, Dhakal is alleged to have been involved in activities including protests, vandalism, and damage to vehicles at the Trade Tower premises where The British College is located.
Dhakal is also a former student of British International College. It has been reported that he failed to pay substantial outstanding fees owed to the college.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim party, threatening WhatsApp messages, audio recordings, news links, and other documents were submitted to the police as evidence. On that basis, Dhakal was arrested.
