Kathmandu. An interactive program has been held between the Nepal Remitters Association and Banking News with the objective of reducing the share of remittances entering Nepal through informal channels. Every year, more than NPR 1.7 trillion in remittance flows into Nepal; however, it is estimated that 20 to 30 percent of this still enters through informal Channels.

During the interaction, both the Association and Banking Samachar discussed joining forces to find solutions to minimize informal channels and ensure that money sent from abroad flows through the ‘Banking Channel’ United Aram Emirates (UAE) to Nepal.

The discussion saw the participation of a team led by the Association’s President, Mr. Ritesh Mittal & Executive Team of Association. During the session, President Mittal emphasized the urgent need to promote the flow of remittances into Nepal through formal legal channels.

Similarly, Raju Dhungel, Managing Director of Banking News, stated that the media house aims to promote a ‘Green Channel’ for remittances coming into Nepal. He specifically stressed the importance of focusing on bringing remittances from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) through formal banking systems.

Banking News is organizing the ‘Banking, Fintech, and Remittance Discourse 2026’ on March 31 and April 1, 2026, in Dubai, UAE. The primary objective of the discourse is to spread financial literacy and promote the use of ‘Formal Channels’ for remittances sent from Dubai to Nepal.

This interactive session between the Association and Banking Samachar was conducted as a specialized precursor to the upcoming Dubai discourse.
