Dubai: Veteran Emirati actor Ahmed Al Jasmi, one of the most respected figures in the UAE’s performing arts scene, has been honoured in recognition of his longstanding contributions to the country’s cultural and artistic development. The recognition took place at a majlis hosted by Omar Mohammed Zubair Al Marzouqi in Dubai.

Al Marzouqi, widely known for organising weekly majlis gatherings aimed at strengthening community ties and celebrating achievements, regularly brings together athletes, sports leaders, and community members. His majlis has served as a platform to honour former UAE football stars, sports council members, coaches, and emerging talents, fostering social cohesion and encouraging dialogue around sports and youth empowerment.

Ahmed Al Jasmi has enjoyed a distinguished artistic career spanning nearly five decades. Beginning his artistic journey in 1975, he quickly became a prominent presence in theatre, television, radio, and film across the UAE and the broader Arab world. In addition to his work as a performer, he has made significant contributions as a writer, director, and producer.

Beyond the stage and screen, Al Jasmi has played an influential leadership role in shaping the Emirati cultural landscape. His administrative and leadership positions include serving as General Supervisor of Drama and Production at Abu Dhabi Television, membership on the permanent committee of the GCC Theatre Festival, and executive roles within several Arab and Gulf theatre organisations. He currently serves as Chairman of Sharjah National Theatre and Vice-Chairman of the Emirates Association for Theatre Artists.

Omar Al Zubair, a major in Dubai Police, is also recognised internationally for his achievements in sports. He broke barriers as the first Emirati, Arab, and Asian referee to officiate a Handball World Cup final and has participated in major global tournaments, including the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Throughout his career, he has officiated hundreds of international and local matches and received national honours such as the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Sports Creativity and the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Award for Sports Excellence.

The honouring of Ahmed Al Jasmi reflects the UAE’s ongoing commitment to recognising cultural pioneers who have contributed significantly to the nation’s artistic heritage.
