Kathmandu – The Communist Party of Nepal (UML) has proposed an annual bonus of Rs 5,000 for Nepali migrant workers sending remittances, according to its recently unveiled election manifesto.

The announcement was included in the party’s manifesto released ahead of the House of Representatives Election 2082 (2025/26). UML stated that the initiative aims to recognize the contribution of Nepali workers abroad who regularly send remittances to the country.

As outlined in the document, migrant workers who consistently transfer remittances through formal channels would receive a direct annual deposit of Rs 5,000 into their bank accounts. The party believes this policy would help boost workers’ morale while encouraging the use of formal banking systems for remittance transfers.

The manifesto also highlights plans to ensure continued participation of all migrant workers in a contribution-based social security system, providing them with long-term financial protection.
