Banking News – More than 261,000 motorists have been barred from accessing transport-related government services after failing to pay outstanding traffic fines, according to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office.

Under the new enforcement measure, drivers with unpaid fines will be unable to access services provided by the Transport Management Office, including registering newly purchased vehicles, transferring vehicle ownership, renewing driving licenses, and other transport-related services.

Traffic police said the service suspension process has already begun after details of long-term defaulters were forwarded to the Transport Management Office. Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi stated that the restrictions will remain in place until the outstanding fines are fully paid into the state treasury.

Authorities clarified that all suspended services will be restored only after the fines have been settled. The Transport Management Office has also made it mandatory to verify that drivers have cleared all outstanding traffic penalties before providing any new transport-related service.

To facilitate compliance, officials have begun sending SMS notifications to drivers with unpaid fines, reminding them to clear their dues.

According to the Traffic Police, the initiative aims to improve the collection of traffic fines, promote compliance with traffic regulations, and strengthen road discipline. Police believe the measure will discourage motorists from ignoring traffic penalties and have urged all drivers to strictly follow traffic rules.
