National Assembly Passes Economic Bill 2083

Banking News – Nepal’s National Assembly has passed the Economic Bill, 2083, clearing the way for the legislation to be sent back to the House of Representatives for further parliamentary procedures.

The bill, which was received from the House of Representatives along with its official message, was endorsed by a majority vote after clause-by-clause deliberations during Thursday’s National Assembly meeting.

Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle presented a proposal to pass the bill without any amendments and return it to the House of Representatives. Earlier, he had also tabled the proposal for detailed clause-wise discussion.

During the deliberations, National Assembly members Dr. Prem Dangal, Samjhana Devkota, Roshani Meche, and Somnath Portel urged the government not to impose additional taxes on the education and healthcare sectors, emphasizing the need to keep essential public services affordable.

During the meeting’s zero hour, lawmakers also drew the government’s attention to several public concerns, including the need to ensure safe and secure housing arrangements for landless citizens and other social welfare issues.
