Three Municipal Police Officers Detained as Investigation Intensifies into Ganesh Nepali Death Case


Banking News – Police have detained three municipal police officers as part of an ongoing investigation into the death of 25-year-old Ganesh Nepali, who attempted self-immolation outside the Department of Passports in Kathmandu.

According to Kathmandu District Police Office spokesperson SP Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, the detained individuals two women and one man have been taken into custody and are being held at the Kalimati Police Circle for questioning as investigators examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Ganesh Nepali, a resident of Soru Rural Municipality-1, Mugu, set himself on fire on Thursday after pouring petrol over his body outside the Department of Passports in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu. He succumbed to his injuries at around 11:30 a.m. on Friday while undergoing treatment at Bir Hospital, police said.

According to authorities, Nepali was admitted to the hospital’s emergency department at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Doctors involved in his treatment reported that around 55 percent of his body had sustained burn injuries.

Nepali was reportedly involved in the ride-sharing business. Family members claim the incident occurred after municipal police placed a wheel lock on his motorcycle, which had been parked outside the Department of Passports. They allege that an argument ensued between Nepali and the municipal police, after which he poured petrol on himself and attempted self-immolation.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and that all aspects of the case are being thoroughly examined.
