Demat Accounts Reach 26% of Nepal’s Population, Bagmati Leads Nationwide


Banking News – The number of Demat account holders in Nepal has reached 26% of the country’s population, according to the Nepal Securities Board (SEBON).

SEBON’s latest data shows that more than 7.766 million Demat accounts had been opened across the country by the end of Jestha in the current fiscal year 2025/26 (2082/83 BS). This marks a significant increase from around 1.7 million accounts recorded by the end of Asar 2077 BS.

Among the provinces, Bagmati Province has the highest Demat account penetration, with 34% of its population holding Demat accounts.

In contrast, Karnali Province has the lowest participation, with only 2.98% of its population having opened Demat accounts.

The data further shows that 18.93% of the population in Koshi Province have Demat accounts, followed by 12.68% in Madhesh Province, 12.46% in Gandaki Province, 12.14% in Lumbini Province, and 6.67% in Sudurpashchim Province.
