Banking News – Nepal Police have arrested two individuals on charges of online fraud after they allegedly created a fake Facebook account using the photograph of a Nepali migrant worker living in London and used it to deceive the victim’s acquaintance into transferring money.

The suspects have been identified as 20-year-old Jasmuddin Ansari of Prasauni Rural Municipality-1, Bara, and 20-year-old Bishal Patel of Bahudarmai Municipality-1, Parsa. They were arrested on Saturday by a team from the District Police Office, Parsa, in Birgunj Metropolitan City-8.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had rented a room in the house of Shiv Pujan Baitha, a resident of Birgunj Metropolitan City-16 originally from Bara. They allegedly used the photograph of a victim from Rautahat, who is currently working in London, United Kingdom, to create a fake Facebook profile and Messenger account.

Using the fake social media identity, the suspects reportedly deceived Shiv Pujan Baitha into transferring Rs. 250,000, believing he was communicating with the migrant worker.

Police have obtained a seven-day remand from the Parsa District Court to investigate the suspects under Nepal’s fraud laws. The investigation into the alleged online scam is ongoing.
