Banking News – The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Huawei Nepal have partnered with Vishwo Niketan Secondary School to launch a Smart Classroom initiative and a Scientific Research Skills Workshop, demonstrating how digital technology can transform teaching and learning while expanding access to quality education across Nepal.

Established in 1959, Vishwo Niketan Secondary School in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu, is one of Nepal’s oldest and most respected public schools. Through this collaboration, the partners aim to create a model for scaling smart education nationwide by building on the school’s long-standing tradition of academic excellence and innovative teaching.

The initiative goes beyond introducing digital classroom technology. It establishes Nepal’s first collaborative smart education platform, connecting schools within the Kathmandu Valley with institutions in other parts of the country. Through the platform, students and teachers will be able to participate in live scientific research sessions, interactive classes, and real-time knowledge sharing, enabling collaborative learning across geographical boundaries.

Using Huawei’s Smart Classroom solution, students in remote schools will gain access to high-quality science education, interactive digital learning materials, and collaborative learning opportunities with students at Vishwo Niketan. Teachers from participating schools will also be able to exchange teaching experiences, share best practices, and jointly conduct effective classroom sessions. The initiative is expected to help reduce educational disparities by digitally connecting schools across Nepal.

Huawei’s smart education strategy focuses on three key priorities: narrowing the educational gap between urban and rural areas, empowering teachers with intelligent digital tools, and continuously improving learning outcomes through data-driven analysis.

Chester Chen, Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Nepal, said the future of education should be determined by the opportunities available to students rather than where they live. He noted that by connecting classrooms across Nepal, Huawei aims to enable students to learn from one another, encourage teachers to collaborate beyond geographical boundaries, and provide every child—from Kathmandu to remote villages—with access to an inclusive, interactive, and future-ready education system.

Jeffrey Jian Shu, Senior Education Specialist at ADB, said the partnership reflects the bank’s commitment to building an inclusive, resilient, and future-ready education system by integrating innovation, collaboration, and digital technology to improve learning opportunities for all students.

According to the partners, the initiative represents a shared vision of ADB, Huawei Nepal, and Vishwo Niketan Secondary School to strengthen scientific literacy, enhance teaching quality, and accelerate Nepal’s digital transformation through a smarter, more connected, and equitable education system.
