Banking News – Mechi Customs Office in Kakarbhitta, one of eastern Nepal’s busiest trade gateways, collected Rs. 17.67 billion in revenue during the fiscal year 2025/26 (FY 2082/83), marking an increase of approximately 11 percent compared to the previous fiscal year.

According to the customs office, total revenue collection reached Rs. 17.67 billion, an increase of Rs. 1.74 billion from the Rs. 15.93 billion collected in FY 2024/25 (2081/82).

Despite the year-on-year growth, the office fell short of its annual revenue target. It had been assigned a target of Rs. 18.87 billion for FY 2025/26 but achieved around 93 percent of the goal.

The Mechi Customs Office serves as one of eastern Nepal’s key import and export gateways. Major exports through the checkpoint include tea, large cardamom, ginger, broom grass products, and churpi (hardened cheese) produced in eastern Nepal.

Key imports through the customs point include petroleum products, textiles, chemicals, and various industrial raw materials and equipment, making the border crossing a vital hub for Nepal’s cross-border trade.
