Banking News – The Government of Nepal has approved the agreement reached with loan shark (meter interest) victims on Shrawan 1, deciding to immediately declare all fraudulent documents associated with such lending practices illegal and invalid.

The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar.
Government Spokesperson and Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel said the Cabinet also approved the formation of a Judicial Inquiry Committee to investigate the self-immolation case of Ganesh Nepali. The committee will be chaired by former High Court Judge Keshav Prasad Bastola.
The Cabinet further decided to appoint High Court Tulsipur Judge Basudev Acharya as the Chairperson of the Special Court, while High Court Surkhet Judge Dipendra Adhikari has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Labour Court.
In another decision, the government appointed Shailesh Raj Kunwar as the Administrator of the Guthi Sansthan (Guthi Corporation).
To promote Nepal’s aviation sector, the Cabinet also approved a package of incentives for scheduled international flights operating from Pokhara International Airport and Gautam Buddha International Airport. Until the end of Bhadra 2085 (mid-September 2028), airlines operating regular international services from these airports will receive a 100% waiver on parking, landing, and navigation fees, along with a 50% discount on ground handling charges.
Additionally, the Cabinet formally approved the full waiver of the Education Equity Fee and Health Equity Fee under Section 18(10) of the Finance Act, 2083, following the government’s earlier decision to withdraw the newly introduced 3% levy on private education and healthcare services.
