CIAA Files Corruption Case Against Former Madhesh Finance Minister and Six Others Over Bagmati Municipal Park Project


Banking News – Nepal’s Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against former Madhesh Province Finance Minister Shailendra Prasad Sah and six others over alleged irregularities in the construction of the Bagmati Municipal Park and Resort in Sarlahi District.

Along with Sah, the CIAA has charged Gajendra Kumar Thakur, the then Secretary at the Ministry of Finance of the Madhesh Province Government; Bharat Kumar Thapa, Mayor of Bagmati Municipality; Leela Kumari Moktan, Deputy Mayor; Bimal Kumar Pokharel, the then Chief Administrative Officer of the municipality; Uddhav Raj Neupane, Under Secretary at the Ministry of Finance of the Madhesh Province Government; and Yubaraj Pokharel, representative of the contractor BKOI Dhulikhel JV.

According to the anti-graft body, the construction project involved alleged corruption amounting to Rs. 393.9 million (Rs. 39.39 crore). However, the CIAA has sought different amounts of compensation and penalties against each of the accused based on their respective roles and level of alleged involvement in the case.
