Banking News – Kailali District recorded 1,929 criminal cases of various categories during the fiscal year 2025/26 (2082/83 BS), with organized and economic crimes accounting for the largest share, according to the District Police Office, Kailali.

The office’s annual progress report shows that 806 cases were related to organized and economic crimes. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Yogendra Timilsina, the district registered 302 banking offence cases, 26 gambling cases, and 157 fraud-related cases, while 411 cases were linked to narcotics and public morality offences.

Strong Progress in Case Enforcement

The District Police Office said it intensified its campaign to apprehend suspects involved in pending criminal cases. During the fiscal year, police arrested 1,950 defendants in connection with 1,434 cases, while 318 suspects remain at large.

Of the 151 public interest cases pending resolution, 55 have been settled. Under the court verdict enforcement campaign, police arrested 826 absconding convicts, enforcing a combined 222 years, three months, and four days of imprisonment, while recovering Rs. 22.1 million in outstanding fines.

As part of its anti-narcotics campaign, police registered 411 drug-related cases and arrested 619 individuals.

Security Operations and Community Policing

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Narendra Chand, police carried out 39,521 security operations throughout the year, including 19,080 picket duties, 4,320 vehicle inspections, 2,520 rural patrols, and 13,597 special patrols.

Additionally, 2,622 police personnel were deployed during protests, fairs, festivals, and disaster response operations.

Under community policing initiatives, police conducted 2,346 community-focused programs and 305 school-based awareness programs, benefiting 78,435 people. Another 34 targeted programs were organized for marginalized, minority, and disadvantaged communities, with 1,542 participants.

Revenue Collection and Traffic Enforcement

Police reported that traffic enforcement and road accident-related penalties generated the highest amount of revenue during the fiscal year.

A total of 601 road accidents were recorded, resulting in 82 fatalities and 974 injuries. During the same period, police took action against 14,926 vehicles for traffic violations, collecting Rs. 14.78 million in revenue.

The annual report also states that police seized goods worth Rs. 73.29 million during operations against revenue leakage and customs evasion.

In efforts to curb illegal extraction of natural resources, authorities impounded 83 vehicles and collected Rs. 1.22 million in fines. Similarly, 40 individuals were arrested in connection with illegal forest product smuggling, generating Rs. 6.32 million in revenue.

Police also destroyed 14,545 liters of illicit liquor and 7,635 liters of raw materials used for its production.

SP Chand said that, based on the experiences and lessons of the past fiscal year, the district police will further strengthen efforts to control crime, apprehend absconding offenders, combat drug-related offences, and enhance community-police partnerships in the coming year.
