Banking News – Nepal’s anti-graft authority has arrested the Chief of the Groundwater Resources and Irrigation Development Division Office in Sarlahi and a Mechanical Officer for allegedly accepting a Rs. 750,000 bribe.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) arrested Division Chief Anupama Dhakal and Sixth-Level Mechanical Officer Tulakant Chaudhary during a sting operation.

According to CIAA spokesperson Suresh Nyaupane, the operation was launched following a complaint alleging that the officials had demanded a bribe from a service recipient while processing payment for the completion of a boring well and motor installation project.

A CIAA team from its Bardibas Office conducted the operation and apprehended both officials from the Division Chief’s official residence after they had allegedly received Rs. 750,000 in bribe money.

During the operation, investigators also recovered an additional Rs. 71,115 from the suspects, the source of which could not be immediately verified.

Authorities further seized three mobile phones from the two officials.

The CIAA said further investigation into the bribery case is underway.
