Banking News – The Ministry of Home Affairs has reassigned Sunsari Chief District Officer (CDO) Basudev Ghimire to the ministry following Sunday night’s violent incident in Sunsari.

According to the ministry, Ishwari Prasad Aryal, the Chief District Officer of Sankhuwasabha, has been appointed as the new CDO of Sunsari. The administrative reshuffle was made in response to the deteriorating security situation in the district.

The ministry said the leadership changes are aimed at strengthening security measures and ensuring an effective investigation into the incident.

The Nepal Police has also transferred several senior officials. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Binod Ghimire, Chief of the Koshi Province Police Office, has been recalled to Police Headquarters in Kathmandu, while DIG Shekhar Khanal has been appointed to lead the Koshi Province Police Office.

Similarly, Superintendent of Police (SP) Keshav Thebe, Chief of the Sunsari District Police Office, has been transferred to Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa. SP Pushparaj Malla, who was serving at the airport, will replace him as the new Chief of the Sunsari District Police Office.

The Armed Police Force (APF) has also made changes, recalling Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nandakishor Mahato from Kaptanganj. DSP Madan Nath, previously serving at APF Headquarters in Kathmandu, has been appointed in his place.

The reshuffle follows a clash between two groups in Kaptanganj, Dewanganj Rural Municipality-3, Sunsari, on Sunday night, which left one person dead and 24 others injured, including nine civilians, 10 Nepal Police personnel, and five Armed Police Force personnel.

To investigate the incident, the Ministry of Home Affairs has formed a five-member inquiry committee led by Joint Secretary Bhupendra Thapa. The committee has been directed to submit its report within one week.

Following the violence, the Sunsari District Administration Office has imposed an indefinite curfew from 7:00 a.m. in selected areas of Dewanganj and Harinagar Rural Municipalities to prevent further unrest.
