Global IME Bank Launches Online Account Opening Through Nagarik App

Banking News – Global IME Bank Limited has launched a new online account opening service in collaboration with the Nagarik App, enabling users to open a bank account digitally without visiting a branch.

Under the new service, Nepali citizens registered on the Nagarik App can open a personal savings account by scanning the QR code available on the bank’s website using their National Identity Card (NID). According to the bank, the required QR code can also be accessed through a link provided within the Nagarik App.

The bank said this is the first service of its kind in Nepal, allowing citizens aged 18 years or above who have obtained a National Identity Card and are registered with the Nagarik App to complete the account opening process entirely online from home.

During the account opening process, Global IME Bank will, with the customer’s consent, securely retrieve the required personal information from the Nagarik App. The bank said this will eliminate the need for repeated data entry while ensuring customer privacy and data security.

However, the bank clarified that accounts opened through the Nagarik App must be verified before becoming fully operational. Customers are required to visit their nearest branch or complete the verification through Video KYC (Know Your Customer).

According to the bank, the service has been introduced to expand secure, simple, and reliable digital banking services by leveraging the Government of Nepal’s digital infrastructure. The partnership with the Nagarik App is expected to make the account opening process more convenient, transparent, and technology-driven.

Global IME Bank is one of Nepal’s leading commercial banks and has received numerous national and international awards for its digital banking innovation and customer service excellence. The bank has been recognized as “Best Bank Nepal” for 2024, 2025, and 2026, in addition to receiving the Euromoney Awards for Excellence, Best Bank for ESG Nepal, Best Employer, and several other international honors.
