Banking News – Jecun Sherpa, originally from Solukhumbu, Nepal, has been selected for the USA Junior National Karate Team (Team USA) after winning a gold medal in the 47 kg Team Kumite event at the 2026 USA Karate National Championships.

The championship was held in Spokane, Washington, from July 16–19, 2026. Sherpa secured the gold medal in the 47 kg Team Kumite category, earning her place on Team USA.

She will now represent the United States at the 2026 Pan American Karate Championships, scheduled to take place in Costa Rica from August 24 to 30, 2026.

Currently training at a karate dojo in New York, Sherpa has consistently delivered outstanding performances in national and state-level competitions over the past several years.

Her recent achievements include a bronze medal at the 2025 USA Karate National Championships, two silver medals at the 2024 National Games, one silver and one bronze medal at a 2024 tournament in Louisiana, and two silver medals at the 2023 USA Karate National Championships.

According to Suraj Bhandari, President of the Nepal America Journalists Association, Sherpa has also won gold and silver medals at the AAU Karate Championships, Garden State Karate Championships, and the New York State Karate Championships.

Jecun Sherpa is the daughter of Lhakpa Sherpa and Cheten Sherpa, originally from Loding, Ward No. 3 of Solududhkunda Municipality, Solukhumbu. The Sherpa family has been residing in the United States for several years.

Her father, Lhakpa Sherpa, said that Jecun is not only active in karate but also excels in academics and swimming competitions.

“This international achievement is the result of years of hard work, discipline, and dedication by our daughter, our family, and her coaches. It is not only a proud moment for us but also one that brings honor to our homeland, Nepal,” he said.

The Sherpa family also expressed gratitude to her coaches and the karate training dojo, expressing confidence that she will continue to achieve success on the international stage.
