Banking News – Victims of alleged microfinance-related exploitation, who marched to Kathmandu on foot from various districts, continued their sit-in protest at Maitighar Mandala for the second consecutive day, demanding that the government address their concerns without delay.

The protesters said they would continue their movement until the government responds to their demands. They have called for the publication and implementation of previous study and investigation reports related to the microfinance sector and urged authorities to end the financial exploitation of borrowers by microfinance institutions, banks, and other financial institutions.

The demonstrators also demanded an end to the collection of high and compound interest rates, the abolition of penalties and additional charges imposed under various headings, and judicial resolution of cases involving land collateral auctions, blacklisting of borrowers, and what they describe as unfair debt recovery practices.

On Tuesday, the protesters staged a demonstration at Baluwatar before marching toward Nepal Rastra Bank. However, they were stopped by police and continued their protest by staging a sit-in on the road.

The protesters stated that they had traveled to Kathmandu on foot from different parts of the country and warned that their movement would continue until their demands are fulfilled.
