Banking News – Nepal’s Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against Shailendra Kumar Chaudhary, an engineer at the Road Division Office, Bhaktapur, accusing him of illegally amassing wealth. The anti-graft body has sought the recovery of Rs. 27.2 million in alleged illicit assets through a charge sheet filed at the Special Court, Kathmandu.

According to the CIAA, the investigation covered the period from January 24, 2009 (11 Poush 2065 BS), when Chaudhary entered public service, until July 13, 2026 (29 Asar 2082 BS). The inquiry examined the income and expenditure of Chaudhary, his wife, and members of his joint family.

The commission stated that the family earned a total of approximately Rs. 27.2 million from various lawful sources during the investigation period.

However, the CIAA found that the family had incurred total expenditures and investments of approximately Rs. 49.8 million, including the purchase of land and houses, vehicles, insurance premiums, children’s education, repayment of bank and financial institution loans, investments in companies and shares, house construction, electrical appliances, furniture, and gold.

Based on the analysis, the commission concluded that Chaudhary’s total expenditure exceeded his legitimate income by Rs. 22,613,123.36. The CIAA stated that he failed to provide a lawful source for the excess assets, alleging that he abused his public office to accumulate illegal wealth. It further claimed that part of the assets had been registered in the names of members of his joint family.

The CIAA has charged Chaudhary under Section 16(20) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2002 (2059 BS) and filed the case at the Special Court, Kathmandu, seeking penalties as provided by law.
