Banking News – The Medical Education Commission (MEC) has approved a Rs. 6.5526 billion program and budget for the fiscal year 2026/27 (2083/84 BS).

The budget was endorsed during the 27th meeting of the Commission, chaired by Prime Minister Balendra Shah, at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

According to the commission, the approved budget comprises Rs. 5.9921 billion allocated by the government and Rs. 560.498 million from the commission’s internal resources, bringing the total budget to Rs. 6.5526 billion.

The meeting also approved the utilization of the commission’s internal funds. As of the end of the previous fiscal year (2082/83 BS), the commission had Rs. 998.596 million in accumulated internal savings. Combined with an estimated Rs. 350 million in additional internal income during the current fiscal year, the commission expects total internal resources of Rs. 1.3486 billion. Of this amount, Rs. 560.498 million has been allocated for expenditure in the current fiscal year.

According to the commission, the approved internal budget includes Rs. 474.298 million for recurrent expenditures and Rs. 86.2 million for capital expenditures.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Education and Sports Sasmita Pokharel, Minister for Health and Food Hygiene Nisha Mehta, Commission Vice-Chair Prof. Dr. Devendra Bahadur Khatri, Member Secretary and Joint Secretary Basanta Prasad Koirala, along with other commission officials.
