Banking News – The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has resumed the implementation of its long-pending electricity pole rental dues collection process, with WorldLink Communications becoming the first internet service provider (ISP) to begin settling its outstanding payments.

According to the NEA, WorldLink has initiated the payment process through the Distribution and Consumer Services Directorate, Bagmati Province Divisional Office.

The company has started paying the pole rental charges determined based on its self-declared data for the fiscal year 2025/26 (FY 2082/83), after applicable tax deductions. WorldLink also stated that it has reconciled its dues for FY 2024/25 (2081/82) based on the joint verification of electricity poles and distribution box (DB Box) installations. The reconciliation includes adjustments for previous duplicate payments before settling the remaining outstanding amount.

Meanwhile, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha said that all service providers utilizing state-owned infrastructure have a legal obligation to pay the applicable fees on time.

Describing WorldLink’s payment as a positive beginning, the minister expressed confidence that other service providers would also fulfill their obligations in accordance with the law.

He further emphasized that the government remains committed to the rule of law and the fair enforcement of legal provisions, adding that any practical implementation issues would be resolved within the legal framework. He also urged stakeholders not to politicize the enforcement process or create unnecessary confusion, reiterating that the law will be applied equally to all service providers.
