Banking News – Police have arrested Chhiring Gurung of Chumnubri Rural Municipality-4, Gorkha, for allegedly operating an illegal Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) call bypass service from Belahiya Bus Park in Siddharthanagar Municipality-1, Rupandehi.

According to police, Gurung had rented a room on the second floor of New Mukti Hotel and Restaurant in Belahiya, where he was allegedly conducting the illegal call bypass operation.

A joint team from the Rupandehi District Police Office and the Belahiya Area Police Office searched the rented room and recovered equipment believed to have been used for the VoIP bypass operation.

The seized items include two SIM gateway devices with SIM cards installed, one WorldLink router, one WiFi 6 Plus router, three mobile phones of different brands, a 12-volt Asian battery, an EMEJ inverter, a multi-plug, and 56 Indian SIM cards.

Police also recovered 38 Ncell SIM card covers, one NTC SIM card, three RJ45 cables, three Chinese SIM cards, a table fan, NPR 11,000 in cash, INR 7,000, a scooter (Bagmati Province registration number 02-027 Pa 9597), a Nepali citizenship certificate, an Indian voter ID card, and a Nepali driving licence.

Police said the Rupandehi District Court has granted a five-day remand to investigate the case under the Telecommunications Act, 2053, on charges related to illegal VoIP call bypass operations.
