SEBON to Publish White Paper on Primary Market Reforms

Banking News – The Nepal Securities Board (SEBON) has announced plans to publish a White Paper on Primary Market Reforms aimed at strengthening Nepal’s public offering process and enhancing the country’s capital market.

The announcement was made by SEBON Chairman Dr. Gopal Prasad Bhatta, who said the Board is preparing the White Paper to address key issues requiring improvement in the Initial Public Offering (IPO) process.

Dr. Bhatta stated that SEBON is continuously implementing policy and regulatory reforms to make Nepal’s primary capital market more organized, transparent, reliable, and investor-friendly.

According to the Chairman, the proposed White Paper will focus on streamlining the public issuance process, strengthening investor protection, promoting good corporate governance, and enhancing public confidence in the capital market. He emphasized that improving the quality and efficiency of the primary market remains one of SEBON’s top priorities.

Highlighting the role of merchant bankers, Dr. Bhatta said they play a vital role in Nepal’s primary securities market and should act responsibly to safeguard investors’ interests. He also expressed confidence that the recently introduced financial review standards for IPO-bound companies would further strengthen their financial health and corporate governance.

During the interaction program, SEBON Board Member and President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN), Anand Raj Sharma Wagley, delivered a detailed presentation on the newly introduced standards. He explained their objectives, implementation process, and significance in the public offering process, noting that the standards would improve the quality, reliability, and financial governance of financial statements submitted by companies seeking to issue securities.

The session concluded with SEBON officials responding to questions raised by participants regarding the implementation of the new standards.
