Banking News – Kathmandu Police have arrested five members of the notorious ‘Karma Gang’, allegedly responsible for a series of gold chain snatching and jewelry robbery incidents targeting women and senior citizens across the Kathmandu Valley.

The District Police Range, Kathmandu, identified the arrested suspects as Karma Tamang of Sindhupalchok, Manoj Tamang, Pasang Ghising, and Pratiman Gole of Kavrepalanchok, and Ale Gurung of Kaski.
According to police, further investigation revealed that Karma Tamang was the group’s alleged ringleader. He was arrested on Shrawan 16 near a water tank in Chunikhel, Budhanilkantha Municipality-13, Kathmandu.
Police said Tamang attempted to attack officers with a khukuri and tried to flee on a motorcycle during the arrest operation. In response, officers fired one round below his knee before taking him into custody.
Authorities recovered the motorcycle used in the crimes, one khukuri, a T-lock, a master key used for motorcycle theft, five motorcycle number plates, and other tools allegedly used in criminal activities.
Police investigations also found that Karma Tamang has nine previous cases related to theft and robbery, Pasang Ghising has four criminal cases, and Pratiman Gole has three cases on record.
Investigators further revealed that Karma Tamang had escaped from the custody of Swoyambhu Police Circle following an incident on September 10, 2025 (Bhadra 24, 2082 BS), while Pratiman Gole had previously escaped from Nakkhu Prison.
The suspects have been remanded into custody for seven days by the Kathmandu District Court, and police said further investigation into the organized robbery network is ongoing.
