Banking News – Nurses from across the Kathmandu Valley staged a protest at Bir Hospital on Tuesday in support of nurse Jyoti Ranabhat, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike since Shrawan 14, 2083, demanding the implementation of a 15-point charter of demands, including a minimum wage and an end to labor exploitation.

On the sixth day of the protest, nurses gathered on the hospital premises carrying placards and urged the government to immediately address Ranabhat’s demands, describing them as legitimate and long overdue.

Ranabhat’s health has reportedly deteriorated as her hunger strike continues. She is currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Bir Hospital.

Protesting healthcare workers said that previous agreements reached with the government regarding nurses’ salaries, allowances, service benefits, and career development have yet to be implemented. They argued that repeated delays in fulfilling these commitments have left nurses across the country facing continued injustice.

The movement has also received support from the Dental Science Hygienist Association of Nepal, the Nepal Public Health Association, the Health Assistant Association of Nepal, and the Nepal CMA Association, all of which have urged the government to address the nurses’ demands without further delay.
