Banking News – The Nepal LPG Industry Association has urged consumers not to stockpile or purchase more LPG cylinders than necessary, saying the recent gas shortage can be resolved quickly if consumers avoid unnecessary hoarding.

The association said LPG imports from India have remained smooth and continued to increase, while gas companies are regularly refilling cylinders and supplying them to the market. It therefore urged consumers to purchase gas only according to their actual needs.

“If consumers do not purchase additional gas, the shortage currently seen in the market can be resolved immediately. There is also no expected disruption in LPG supply in the coming days, so there is little possibility of a gas shortage,” Association President Diwan Bahadur Chand said in a statement.

According to the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), LPG imports from various Indian refineries have increased by around 15 percent recently. The corporation reported that 39,774 metric tons of LPG were imported in the past 22 days.

Based on the current import trend, Nepal is estimated to import around 55,000 metric tons of LPG in the current month of Shrawan. During the same period of the previous fiscal year, LPG imports stood at 44,318 metric tons.

The LPG Industry Association said it is making every possible effort to ensure adequate supply according to market demand. It has also urged LPG dealers to prioritize household consumers when distributing LPG cylinders.

The association said responsible consumer purchasing, continued imports and regular cylinder refilling will help maintain a stable LPG supply in Nepal and prevent unnecessary shortages.
