Banking News – Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has emphasized the need to preserve and promote the historical assets housed at the National Archives. During his visit to the National Archives in Ramshah Path on Tuesday evening, he said it was essential to safeguard historical, political, religious and cultural documents preserved there.

Wagle said the historical documents held at the National Archives are invaluable assets of Nepal and must be safely preserved for future generations.

“It is essential to preserve the historical, political, religious and cultural documents kept here. I thank you for your efforts to safeguard Nepal’s historical documents,” Finance Minister Wagle told the archive staff. “This should become a knowledge center for researchers, students and those interested in history. Let us all work toward its preservation.”

During the visit, Wagle received brief information about collections related to the economic and political activities of historical governance systems. He also inquired with officials about the effectiveness of the budget and programs being provided to the National Archives.

Department of Archaeology Director General Saubhagya Pradhanang, who briefed Finance Minister Wagle during the visit, said preserving historical, religious, cultural and political documents has become challenging due to a lack of resources and facilities.

She said the absence of secure and well-equipped physical infrastructure has made it difficult to ensure the safety of archival materials. She also noted that limited resources have prevented the National Archives from adequately raising awareness among researchers, students and government agencies about its importance.

Pradhanang urged the Finance Minister to allocate budgetary resources for constructing a new building with adequate land at a new location, adopting new technologies to preserve archival materials and enhancing the capacity of employees.
