Banking News – Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki has expressed dissatisfaction over remarks made by Rastriya Swatantra Party lawmaker Khagendra Sunuwar regarding the integrity of police personnel and the dignity of the police organization.

Speaking at a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, IGP Karki objected to comments that he said could undermine the integrity of police personnel and the dignity of the organization.

Karki also complained that basic protocol was not maintained when he was invited to the committee meeting. Expressing anger over what he described as attempts to tarnish his reputation and that of the organization, he openly challenged anyone to examine his and his family members’ bank accounts and phone records.

Criticizing the tendency to verbally attack the police, Karki said that police personnel also face “shaming, blaming and gaming.” He said making arbitrary allegations without evidence undermines both parliamentary and social standards of conduct.

Karki said incidents involving complaints should be investigated. Although it may be easy to make allegations, he emphasized that an investigation is necessary to establish the facts. He noted that police also receive complaints related to fraud, including cases involving promises of sending people abroad for employment, and that legal proceedings are initiated only after preliminary investigation.

“Expecting respect from police service may be a mistake. But police officers are also citizens, and they should at least receive the dignity that citizens are entitled to,” he said.

Karki also expressed dissatisfaction with statements threatening to “drag” police personnel, saying such remarks appeared to reflect attempts to exert control over the police.

He said that during elections, police have also had to use vehicles provided by the general public and other parties. According to him, elections could be conducted more effectively if adequate resources were provided to the police.

Karki also complained that when police authorities raised the issue of providing relief and support to families of police personnel who lost their lives during the Gen Z movement, they were accused of having “taken Rs. 3 million.”

Referring to the difficult circumstances faced by police personnel following the Gen Z movement in Bhadra last year, Karki said some police officers had been deployed on duty barefoot and without adequate uniforms. He also said the condition of police barracks remained poor.
