Banking News – Ncell has extended the duration of free voice, data, and SMS services in flood-affected areas by an additional seven days, effective Saturday, to facilitate communication, search, rescue, and relief distribution. With this extension, the company’s services will now be available free of charge in the affected areas for an additional week.

Earlier on Wednesday, Ncell had announced free data, all-network voice, and 100 free SMS messages for three days in areas affected by the devastating flood in the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa, and had been providing services accordingly. The three-day period was set to expire today.

Communication services play a vital role during disasters in facilitating information exchange, coordination, and making rescue and relief distribution efforts effective. The company has extended the free service period to make it easier for affected community members to stay in contact with their families, relatives, and rescue and relief teams.

“We believe this contribution will help affected communities stay in touch with their families and relatives during this disaster, and facilitate coordination with teams engaged in rescue and relief efforts. It is our collective responsibility to provide whatever support we can during this difficult time,” said Upanga Dutta, Chief Consumer Business Officer of Ncell.

18 Towers Restored

Ncell has been working to maintain continuous communication services during the disaster and support emergency search, rescue, and relief operations. The company has restored 18 mobile towers that were disrupted in the affected areas due to the flood, and is working to restore the remaining nine affected towers.

Additionally, Ncell had provided Rs 1 crore in assistance to the Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Relief Fund through Ncell Foundation on Thursday to contribute to search, rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts. Ncell has also been disseminating necessary information through SMS and its social media pages and accounts, urging the public in flood-affected areas to follow safety directives issued by relevant authorities to stay safe.
