Banking News – Ncell has begun providing internet services based on satellite technology in the flood-affected areas of the Bhote Koshi River to facilitate ongoing search, rescue, and relief operations, and to ensure communication remains uninterrupted even in emergency situations.

Ncell has been installing equipment operated by Eutelsat’s low-earth orbit satellite in identified important and necessary locations in coordination with relevant government agencies involved in rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts. This technology provides internet service via satellite even when communication networks are disrupted.

This technology will provide free internet service in flood-affected communities, holding centers, relief distribution centers, temporary shelters, and emergency operation areas. So far, this technology has been made available at three important locations in Nuwakot, while installation in other flood-affected areas is ongoing.

In this technology, equipment installed on the ground receives internet signals from the satellite. The equipment then provides Wi-Fi service to surrounding areas through another device. Even when regular internet and mobile services are unavailable, this technology provides internet service.

This technology provides high-speed and low-latency connectivity, meaning people can use it for messaging, internet-based calls, accessing important information, browsing, and coordinating relief efforts. Ncell has already obtained necessary approvals from government agencies including the Nepal Telecommunications Authority for this service.

“We have established satellite communication access in three locations in Nuwakot where road infrastructure and communication services have been severely affected. This will facilitate rescue and relief efforts while helping affected locals stay connected during this difficult time,” said Dilli Ram Shrestha, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer of Ncell.

From the very first day, Ncell has been providing free voice, data, and SMS services daily to over 300,000 affected customers in the flood-affected areas. The company has also contributed Rs 1 crore in financial assistance to the Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Relief Fund through Ncell Foundation for rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts.
