Banking News – Prime Minister Balendra Shah has proposed the establishment of a “Himalayan Climate Resilience Mechanism” under the leadership of Nepal, India, and China.

Addressing the 81st United Nations General Assembly today, he noted that the Hindu Kush Himalayan region is linked to the water, ecosystems, agriculture, and livelihoods of nearly two billion people, and stated that the Himalayan region is a vital part of the Earth’s life system.

According to him, through the proposed mechanism, satellite data and expertise would be exchanged, risky glacial lakes would be monitored, a joint early warning system would be strengthened, and cross-border assistance would be coordinated during disasters.

Prime Minister Shah emphasized that the Himalayas should be made a laboratory of international cooperation rather than a boundary line of fragmented information. Noting that Nepal is playing a global role greater than its ecological contribution, he informed that forest restoration has been achieved in nearly half of Nepal’s land area.

Prime Minister Shah stated that hydropower development is being advanced to meet clean energy needs, the use of electric vehicles is increasing, and climate adaptation is being strengthened at local levels. He also expressed Nepal’s commitment to prepare further to combat increasing disasters.

Prime Minister Shah stated that the flood disaster that occurred in Nepal’s Himalayan region a month ago was not just a tragedy limited to Nepal but a warning for the world.
