Banking News – Nepali citizens can now obtain copies of their citizenship certificates from any District Administration Office. According to the Nepal Citizenship (Fifth Amendment) Regulations, 2083 and the government’s 100-point governance reform agenda, the arrangement for distributing citizenship certificate copies has been simplified.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has already sent a circular to all District Administration Offices to implement this arrangement. Following the circular, the District Administration Office Kathmandu issued a notice on Monday stating that citizens wishing to obtain a copy of their citizenship certificate can receive the service from any District Administration Office.

According to the office, citizens can avail of this service if their citizenship certificate has been destroyed by fire or water, torn and rendered unusable, lost, required in a new format, or needs to be duplicated for any other reason.
As the pressure of citizens from other districts may increase in the Kathmandu Valley, arrangements have been made to provide services province-wise from all three District Administration Offices. Accordingly, the District Administration Office Kathmandu and its subordinate offices will provide services to citizens of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces.
Similarly, citizens of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces can obtain copies of citizenship certificates from the District Administration Office Lalitpur, while citizens of Koshi and Madhesh provinces can obtain them from the District Administration Office Bhaktapur.
According to the District Administration Office Kathmandu, copies will be issued if the biometric details of citizens of the respective provinces applying for a copy exactly match the records in the National Identity Management Information System (NIDMIS) and the Centralized Citizenship Information Management System (CCIMS).
However, if the records in the system do not match, if the applicant wishes to obtain a copy with a different name, surname, date of birth, or other details than those mentioned in the original citizenship certificate, or if the citizenship certificate appears suspicious at first glance, the concerned individual must contact the district where they originally obtained their citizenship.
The notice issued by Ishwar Raj Poudel, Chief District Officer of the District Administration Office Kathmandu, states that in cases of discrepancies in records and details or suspicious citizenship certificates, the process must be initiated from the concerned district. The new arrangement is expected to make it easier for citizens to receive services by removing the compulsion to travel to the district where they obtained their citizenship.
